We understand that the process of preparing your child for the 11+ examinations can sometimes feel overwhelming. This is particularly true in the North London area, which is a real hub of some of the best and most competitive Grammar and Independent Schools across London and indeed across the country.
Our work throughout the 11+ process is underpinned by our commitment to getting to know the student and the family, and helping them find a school that will fit their individual needs.
Between us, our three lead tutors have over 30 years experience in supporting students and parents through this journey and over the past decade years, Trefoil has guided hundreds of students through the 11+ process helping them find the right secondary school. Each year, we teach students from over 80 different schools in North London - this gives us a truly unique snapshot into these schools which we can then use to provide impartial, insightful and honest advice to the parents of our 11+ students.
For the majority of our students and their parents, the 11+ preparation process will begin in either the January of Year 3 or January of Year 4. We start our work at this stage in order to develop a habit of continuous learning, minimise stress and foster enjoyment of academic exploration in our students. Throughout the years, we have developed a unique and comprehensive 11+ course which covers all the material an 11+ candidate is expected to know before sitting entrance examinations. All our materials are written in-house by our Lead Tutors which means your child will be provided with sets of notes and questions that have been written specifically with 11+ preparation in mind and tailored year after year to help students best prepare not only for the upcoming examinations, but also success in their start to secondary school. This weekly work is supplemented further with packs of past papers which are provided in a particular order to ensure that the student’s preparation for the exams is rigorous and correctly paced. Closer to the exam season we also offer mock examinations which are written in-house following the model of North London Grammar and Independent school entrance exams.
Maintaining a continuous dialogue between the tutors and the parents is an indispensable part of our 11+ approach. Every week, students and their parents receive personalised written feedback from their tutor commenting on their progress through the course. This is complemented by a termly report meeting between the tutor and the student’s parents.
Places in our 11+ lessons are therefore in high demand and we strongly encourage parents to get in touch with us as early as possible to register your interest and ensure that your child starts lessons with us no later than at the beginning of Year 4 in order to benefit from the full teaching course prepared by our tutors.
