NATIONAL STORYTELLING WEEK

Imran, Feb. 2, 2026

Today, we begin celebrating National Storytelling Week!

National Storytelling Week takes place every year and is a celebration of the power of sharing stories, this years theme is 'Soundtrack your story.'

Slightly more than three in five (60.7%) young people age 8 to 18 said that they regularly read song lyrics digitally. Writing song lyrics is especially popular among young people age 8-18, with just less than one in five (17.8%) telling us they write lyrics on a screen at least once a month. To celebrate storytelling week, taking place from the 2nd to 8th February 2026, the National Literacy Trust have created a fantastic programme of events and resources that will take children on a journey from listening to stories to becoming young storytellers themselves.

To benefit from these resources, and to sign up for live webinars with children’s authors, please visit the National Literacy Trust’s dedicated webpage: https://literacytrust.org.uk/resources/national-storytelling-week/#:~:text=To%20celebrate%20storytelling%20week,%20taking,to%20becoming%20young%20storytellers%20themselves.
