With the 11+ entrance examinations for Independent Schools fast approaching, we are delighted to confirm the dates of our Mathematics, English and Reasoning mock examinations that will take place in the coming weeks.
About the 11+ mock examinations
The mock examinations are modelled on 11+ entrance examination papers to Independent Schools in the North London area. Our 11+ mock examinations are written by our tutors in house and are facilitated and marked by our subject leads.
The Mathematics mock examination papers are written by Vivek Gathani, our Lead Mathematics Tutor and qualified teacher who helped write and mark the 11+ entrance examination papers when teaching at Haberdashers' Boys' School. With a BSc(Hons) Mathematics degree from the University of Warwick and a PGCE in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, Vivek has over sixteen years’ experience in private tuition as well as four years’ experience of teaching Mathematics at Haberdashers’ Boys’ School, two of which included a pastoral role as Deputy Housemaster.
The English mock examination papers are led by Kishan Ganatra, our Lead English tutor. Having completed his PGCE in English (Secondary) at the UCL Institute of Education, Kishan is in his third year of teaching at Trefoil. Kishan is a scholar of Haberdashers’ Boys’ School and a graduate of the University of Nottingham with a BA (Hons).
The Reasoning mock examination papers are written by Rebecca Wolffe, our Lead Reasoning Tutor and qualified teacher. Rebecca has a BSc (ARCS) in Biochemistry from Imperial College, London, a PGCE through the Teach First Programme and a postgraduate qualification in Educational Leadership from the Institute of Education. Rebecca has thirteen years of teaching experience as well as an in-depth understanding of the North London Grammar and Independent Schools.
Location
The mocks will take place at our premises in Elstree (5 Theobald Court, Theobald Street, WD6 4RN).
Exam structure
Each 2-hour-long exam session will contain:
– an introduction to the paper structure by the tutor;
– a brief Q&A session for the students about the 11+ process;
– sitting the 60-minute-long examination;
– a 15-minute break while the tutor marks the papers;
– a review of the paper highlighting common mistakes.
Each examination session is limited to six places. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The papers will be marked and returned to the students on the same day.
Dates and times
Please see the dates and times of our 11+ mock examinations on our dedicated webpage: https://www.trefoiltutors.co.uk/mock-examinations/
.
We have prepared a different mock examination paper each day for Mathematics, VR, NVR and English so students are welcome to sit more than one paper for additional practice opportunities.
The mock examination on the 22nd of October is adapted to match the exam format used at Haberdashers' Boys' School in the past few years and combines Reasoning, Mathematics and English sections. This is a paper-based mock examination.
The General mock examination on the 22nd of October is adapted to the General Paper format used at Merchant Taylors’ School in the past few years.
