INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S BOOK DAY

Lucy, April 2, 2023

Today we celebrate International Children’s Book Day!

International Children's Book Day is a yearly event sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), an international non-profit organisation. Founded in 1967, the day is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday, 2nd April. Andersen is most famous for writing over 156 fairy tales in his lifetime. His original tales include The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling and Thumbelina.

This year’s chosen theme is ‘I am a book, read me’.

IBBY Greece is the official sponsor of ICBD 2023 and the poster is the result of a collaboration between author Vagelis Iliopoulos and illustrator Photini Stephanidi. Together, they wanted to celebrate the power of children’s books in promoting values of equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as connecting people through tolerance and understanding.
