WINNER OF THE 2023 ASTRID LINDGREN MEMORIAL AWARD ANNOUNCED

Lucy, April 21, 2023

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature.

The recipient of the 2023 Award is New York Times bestselling and critically acclaimed author Laurie Halse Anderson, one of America’s foremost writers for young adults. Her memoir-in-verse SHOUT - released in 2019 - was named a Best Book of the Year by TIME and NPR. Her titles also include Speak, Wintergirls and The Impossible Knife of Memory.

The awarding body stated “In her tightly written novels for young adults, Anderson gives voice to the search for meaning, identity, and truth, both in the present and the past. Her darkly radiant realism reveals the vital role of time and memory in young people’s lives. With tender intensity, Anderson evokes moods and emotions and never shies from even the hardest things.”
