PARENT TESTIMONIAL - DANIYAL AND ZAYD’S DAD

Connor, Oct. 3, 2023

We are delighted to share with you the positive feedback contributed by the parents of students who have attended our group lessons and found these enjoyable and beneficial to their learning.

“First and foremost, it is an extremely nurturing environment, which gives a lot of personal attention to each student. Personally, my boys absolutely love coming here and the fact that they love coming here and they still learn is amazing. Some kids will only like going somewhere because they’re going to have a good time and not really get much out of it, but they enjoy coming here - regardless of what time it might be, whether it's eight in the morning or five in the evening - and they get a lot out of it as well.

I think that comes from that nurturing environment, and the fact that Trefoil Tutors takes a lot of time and care in making sure that the material is age appropriate, and is appropriate for whatever target you’ve set yourself, whether it’s the 11+ or A Levels, or GCSEs. A lot of care goes into the material they provide, the way they approach the lessons, and also the planning they do. It is really everything you’d want from a tuition centre, and we cannot say enough good things about it and our experience has been only positive. It’s like a family, and we feel part of that family now.”

SENIOR TUTOR UPDATE - AUTUMN TERM WEEK 5

Connor, Oct. 2, 2023

In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek does his best impression of a newsreader, summarising a busy week at Trefoil. Vivek reminds parents of the continued building work taking place in the car park. Vivek goes on to inform parents about the first set of academic monitoring emails that will be sent this week. With the cold season upon us, Vivek encourages students to attend lessons face-to-face if they are well enough to do so, but equally, to make use of the calling-in facility if they are unwell. Vivek also reminds students to complete corrections and begin their revision for the assessment in Week 6. With parents of our students in mind, Vivek proudly announces the start of the event schedule at Trefoil, with the 11+ Parents' Advice Evening taking place on Monday 16th October. Our Director of Accounts Milda brings two important announcements. Firstly, our full year payment discount is available until the end of the Half Term (16 October). Parents are welcome to secure their child's place for the full academic year and receive an additional £100 discount per subject. Secondly, Milda reminds parents of how important it is to join our courses at the start rather than mid-way through the year, and encourages parents to review the available places in the range of subjects we teach at Trefoil Tutors.

PARENT TESTIMONIAL - RISHI’S MUM

Connor, Sept. 26, 2023

We are delighted to share with you the positive feedback contributed by the parents of students who have attended our group lessons and found these enjoyable and beneficial to their learning.

“I’m really happy with sending Rishi to Trefoil. One of the biggest highlights for me was the way Trefoil handled tutoring during the lockdown period. I was so impressed with the way the Skype lessons were managed. The video uploads that Vivek had done were outstanding, and that actually allowed my son to go back and look at the videos multiple times if he had any queries or questions. It was absolutely amazing.

I think that signing my son up for lessons at Trefoil was a really good decision and I’ve seen his school results improve drastically. So overall, I’m a really happy parent.”

Connor, Sept. 22, 2023

Registration open for 11+ mock examinations during the October Half Term!

With the 11+ entrance examinations season having already begun, we would like to remind Year 6 students to book their place in our Mathematics, Reasoning and English mock examinations that will take place during the October Half Term.

The mock examinations are modelled on 11+ entrance examination papers to Independent Schools in the North London area.

The Mathematics mock examination papers are written by Vivek Gathani, our lead Mathematics tutor who helped write and mark the 11+ entrance examination papers when teaching at Haberdashers' Boys' School.

The English mock examination papers are written by Milda Gathani, our lead English tutor who has been preparing pupils for 11+ entrance examinations to grammar and independent schools since 2013.

The Reasoning mock examination papers are written by Rebecca Wolffe, our lead Reasoning and Science tutor with 10 years of teaching experience and previously Director of Science at Verulam School in St Albans.

The mocks will take place at our premises in Elstree (5 Theobald Court, Theobald Street, WD6 4RN), with students attending the mock examinations in person.

Each 2-hour-long exam session will contain:

  • an introduction to the paper structure by the tutor
  • a brief Q&A session for the students about the 11+ process
  • sitting the 60-minute-long examination
  • a 15-minute break while the tutor marks the papers
  • a review of the paper highlighting common mistakes

Students have the opportunity to sit a different mock examination paper each day for Mathematics, Reasoning and English.

For available dates and times for the mock examinations, please visit the dedicated page on our website:

Places are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

PARENT TESTIMONIAL - DANIYAL AND ZAYD’S MUM

Connor, Sept. 19, 2023

We are delighted to share with you the positive feedback contributed by the parents of students who have attended our group lessons and found these enjoyable and beneficial to their learning.

“Ideally, I would say 11+ preparation is a two year journey. With our elder son, Daniyal, we didn’t have a choice because we’d moved from Singapore, so he started in Year 5, and I know that if Daniyal had started in Year 4 he would have done even better than he did. They are young children - you can’t cram it all in, in one year. The lessons are very structured, and Daniyal did the Summer Lessons in August as well for both English and Maths - that was very, very helpful. The Summer Lessons are intense, they are tailored towards students practising past papers and they are coming two days a week for each subject. Additionally, it’s in August so the timing is really good as well.”

SENIOR TUTOR UPDATE - AUTUMN TERM WEEK TWO

Connor, Sept. 12, 2023

In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek begins by reflecting on the week just gone. Vivek thanks tutees, their parents, tutors and the office team for all hard work and dedication during the extremely rewarding - albeit exhausting - first week of the 2023/2024 academic year. Vivek reminds parents to check the log in details provided and to check that students are equipped with the correct calculators. Looking ahead to next week, Vivek emphasises the need to establish good working routines. Once these are established, students and tutors can focus more of their efforts on exploring the subject material. Our Director of Accounts, Milda, reminds parents about the possibility to register students for lessons in more than one subject, book a place for the full academic year as well as place siblings’ names on our waiting list if you would like to join our lessons in the future. PARENT TESTIMONIAL - DILAN’S MUM

Connor, Sept. 12, 2023

We are delighted to share with you the positive feedback contributed by the parents of students who have attended our group lessons and found these enjoyable and beneficial to their learning.

“There has been a significant improvement, my son’s subject knowledge has been stretched and he is constantly being encouraged to think deeper into the subjects that he is being taught. Dilan absolutely loves the group settings; they’re big enough where the children can interact with each other, share ideas. Also, they are small enough so that the child can get their individual attention from the Tutor. Dilan absolutely adores his tutors, the tutors at Trefoil are passionate, enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable in their subjects that they teach, and most importantly they make the lessons fun and engaging!”
