Reading list for the half-term

In order encourage students to explore different writers, styles and genres, as well as help them develop a love of literature, our lead English tutor Milda has compiled a list of 12 book recommendations for each year group from Year 3 to Year 11. The books on the list range from timeless classics to recent releases. As they go through the list, students will become familiar with the work of world-famous writers and meet iconic book characters.

FREE SUMMER MATHEMATICS ASSIGNMENTS – SET 1

The summer holidays are an important time for students to take a break and recharge their batteries – at the same time, parents often worry about academic regression which may make the start of the new academic year harder than expected.

Last summer, we shared a video from our lead tutor Vivek Gathani on managing academic regression. In the video, Vivek highlighted the importance of practising “little and often” in order to stay up to speed with the material studied in the previous academic year. You can watch the video here.

FREE 11+ MOCK PAPER WITH WORKED ANSWERS

Milda, Jan. 4, 2019

With the start of the new year, our Year 6 students are completing their final preparations for sitting 11+ entrance examinations in the upcoming weeks. With the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School exam taking place tomorrow, our senior tutor Vivek Gathani, a former Mathematics teacher at Haberdashers’ who used to help write and mark the 11+ entrance paper during his time at the school, has prepared a mock 11+ Mathematics paper, together with full worked answers. We are delighted to share this with you!

Resources A-level mathematics

11+ mock Mathematics and English examinations: registration open

We are glad to remind parents that during the October half-term and the Christmas holidays, we will be running Mathematics and English mock examinations for pupils who are preparing to sit 11+ entrance examinations to independent schools this January. The mock examinations are modelled on 11+ entrance examination papers to independent schools in the area.

The mock examination papers are written by our lead tutors Vivek Gathani and Milda Sabunaite.

The mocks will take place at our premises in Elstree (5 Theobald Court, Theobald Street, WD6 4RN). The students will have the opportunity to sit a different Mathematics mock examination paper and an English mock examination paper each day.

Trefoil Tutors represented at the National Tutors Conference

Today, our Manager Milda Sabunaite represented Trefoil Tutors at the National Tutors Conference hosted by the Tutors' Association. Attended by over 150 tutors from around the country, the event offered a variety of seminars and workshops that covered topics from structuring long-term tutoring to adapting lessons to high-achieving students, as well as looking at the future of the tutoring sector in the UK. We were delighted to be part of the event!

11+ English and Mathematics mock examinations

As Year 6 students dive into the final stage of preparing for the upcoming 11+ entrance examinations, we would like to share with you FREE 11+ English and Mathematics mock examination papers.

The Mathematics mock examination paper is written by Vivek Gathani, our lead Mathematics tutor who helped write and mark the 11+ entrance examinations when teaching at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School. You can access the paper on our website:

The English paper is written by our lead English tutor Milda Sabunaite, who has been preparing pupils for 11+ entrance examinations to grammar and independent schools since 2013. You can access the paper on our website:

The answers to both papers will be published on our Facebook page next week; do follow us @TrefoilTutors to be notified about when the answers are published.
