Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent - a period of six weeks leading up to Easter.

Lent is a special time of reflection and faith, practised in prayer and by the act of giving up something. That “something” depends on the person observing Lent, with the main guidelines being that it has to be something that’s challenging to give up during this period. Millions of people give up something during Lent as a sign of sacrifice and to test their self-discipline.

We would like to wish you a happy Valentine's Day, and hope you will spend it surrounded by your loved ones!

After a successful first six lessons of the Spring Term, our Half Term Break begins today, with no group lessons taking place between Tuesday, the 13th and Saturday, the 17th of February.

Lessons will resume on Sunday, 18th of February.

Please note, our office is closed for the Half Term break from Tuesday, 13th February to Saturday, 17th February. Our team will be intermittently checking our email inboxes for any urgent queries.

Today is Shrove Tuesday - also known as Pancake Day!

Shrove Tuesday falls on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent - a period of six weeks leading up to Easter.

As a reminder, we would like to inform parents that we will be open as usual today, Monday 12th February, and students who have their lessons on Mondays should attend as usual.

The American Library Association has announced the 2024 winners of the Youth Media Awards, including the Newbery and Caldecott medals, and the Printz award. These are some of the oldest and most prestigious awards in children’s literature; the Newbery and Caldecott medals have been awarded for over 80 years.

University of Oxford has released the first two weeks of lectures of the first year Oxford Mathematics degree on YouTube, alongside some accompanying materials. For students considering applying for the course, this is an indication of the mathematics covered at the start of the course.

The Intermediate Mathematical Challenge commences today, with Year 10 and Year 11 students competing for gold, silver and bronze certificates across the country.

We would like to wish the best of luck to all our students who are sitting the Challenge today. Remember that it is not an exam, but a challenge - so stay calm and enjoy the process!

Today, we begin celebrating National Storytelling Week!

National Storytelling Week takes place every year and is a celebration of the power of sharing stories.

Today is International Holocaust Memorial Day. The theme for 2024 is Fragility of Freedom.

We would like to take this day to remember, and pay tribute to, the 6 million lives lost during the Holocaust.

Applicants who have sat interviews for places at the University of Cambridge will hear about being offered a place between today and the 31st of January. We would like to wish the best of luck to our students who are waiting to hear back - our fingers are firmly crossed for you!

Today we celebrate the International Day of Education!

On 3rd December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 24th of January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development around the world.

We are delighted to have been able to support the learning of so many children throughout the past years – this day is a great reminder to appreciate and treasure the learning opportunities accessible to us!
