SENIOR TUTOR UPDATE - AUTUMN TERM WEEK TEN

Lucy, Nov. 20, 2022

In this week's Senior Tutor Update Video, Vivek highlights the need for us to focus on maintaining our confidence, energy and motivation levels. Vivek reminds parents that we only see a 90-minute window of the students' week and this window is usually filled with excitement and engagement, therefore it is important that parents keep an eye on the students' energy levels overall to avoid burnout. Vivek reminds us of the phrase "Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time" - this week may be an opportune time to book in that treat rather than waiting until the Christmas break. Vivek reminds students about the return of double the amount of work this week and emphasises how important it is to complete corrections diligently with the tutors' help. Vivek informs parents that invoices for registration for the Spring Term have been sent out last week. Looking ahead, the final tranche of 11+ past papers for Year 6 students, and request for updates regarding academic aspirations for students in Years 11 and 13 will be sent out in Week 10. Parent report booking emails will then be sent out in Week 11 as usual. Finally, Vivek thanks parents for their positive replies to our request for work experience places for our students.

PARENT TESTIMONIAL – DANIYAL AND ZAYD’S MUM

Lucy, Oct. 25, 2022

We are delighted to share with you the positive feedback contributed by the parents of students who have attended our group lessons and found these enjoyable and beneficial to their learning.

“Ideally, I would say 11+ preparation is a two year journey - with Daniyal we didn’t have a choice because we’d moved from Singapore, so he started in Year 5, and I know that if Daniyal had started in Year 4 he would have done even better. They are young children - you can’t cram it all in, in one year. The lessons are very structured, and Daniyal did the Summer Lessons in August as well for both English and Maths - that was very, very helpful. The Summer Lessons are intense, they are tailored towards students practising past papers and they are coming two days a week for each subject. Additionally, it’s in August so the timing is really good as well.”

FREE SET OF PROBLEM-SOLVING QUESTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR 11+ INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAMS

Lucy, Oct. 24, 2022

To support our students' preparations for their 11+ examinations, our Lead Mathematics Tutor, Vivek Gathani, would like to share a selection of problem-solving questions with answers he has written for his students.

Parents often enquire about practice questions similar in type and difficulty to those found towards the middle and end of Independent School papers. The sets of questions Vivek has prepared pick up on techniques we teach our students in lessons in the run-up to these examinations. We thought it may be beneficial to share these with the wider community.

To access the problem solving questions and the corresponding answers, please follow the link below:

We hope you find these useful!

RECOMMENDED READING LISTS

Lucy, Oct. 23, 2022

The Half Term break is an excellent opportunity for students to pursue their reading interests without the constraints of a usual school timetable.

In order to encourage students to explore different authors, styles and genres, as well as help them develop a love of literature, our Lead English Tutor Milda has compiled a list of twelve book recommendations for each year group from Year 3 to Year 11. The books on the list range from timeless classics to recent releases. As they go through the list, students will become familiar with the work of world-famous writers and meet iconic book characters.

To download the Recommended Reading List, please click read more and follow the link for your Year Group.

We hope that students will explore these not only during the Half Term, but also throughout the academic year!

Many of the books on the list are available to borrow from our office library. Please speak to our Lead English Tutor, Milda, if you are looking for a specific title.

Happy reading!
