In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek reviews the progress made throughout the term so far and, in light of a busy end of the half-term for many students, emphasises the importance of revision in preparation for Week 6 assessments.
With this in mind, our Director of Studies Rebecca shares some useful advice on how students can best utilise their lesson notes and work completed so far in the term to aid their revision and help them effectively prepare for the assessment.

Following a number of enquiries from parents, we are delighted to announce that we will continue to offer the full-year booking discount of £200 until the end of the half-term break, the 1st of November.
So far, 16% of parents have booked their child's place in the group lessons for the full academic year and have received the £200 or £150 discount.
If you would like to use the full-year payment discount, please contact our Registrar Milda at milda@trefoiltutors.co.uk, who will then send you a revised invoice.
For the discount to apply, we must receive your full year payment by 5pm on Sunday, the 1st of November.

As many parents of Year 6 students will know, following an announcement on the 25th of September, 2020, the dates of the 11+ Entrance Examinations to Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School and Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls have been moved from January 2021 to the 17th and 18th of December 2020 alongside a change in the exam structure.
In response to this, we are delighted to announce that during the Christmas Break, we will run one tailored mock examination adapted to the revised exam structure of these two schools.
The tailored mock examination will take place on Tuesday, the 15th of December, at 4:30pm-6:30pm.

In the past couple of weeks, we have seen a number of Independent Schools in North London move the date of their entrance examinations from January 2021 to December 2020. With this in mind, we would like to invite those Year 6 students who have not yet booked a place to attend the 11+ mock examinations we will run in the October Half-Term as well as during the Christmas Break.

Today we celebrate the world’s very first International Day of Education! On 3rd December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 24th of January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development around the world.

We are very excited to announce that, following a number of enquiries from students and parents, we are starting a new Mathematics group lessons for Year 9 students.
The Mathematics group lessons will be run by Kirtan Shah, a newly qualified teacher currently working as a Teacher of Mathematics at QE Boys' School. With an ability to successfully communicate complex concepts in a simple manner, Kirtan is a tutor who is able to offer support to students of varying age and ability.
The lessons, attended by a maximum of six Year 9 students, will follow the GCSE programme prepared by our senior Mathematics tutor Vivek Gathani, which sees the students through to their GCSE examinations in Year 11.

We are very excited to see our team of tutors grow this academic year! On the 3rd of January, we held our Tutor Induction Day and welcomed four new tutors, Kirtan, Christoph, Nirmala and Riddhi, who will be running small group lessons in Mathematics and Economics at Trefoil.
During the induction, the new tutors received training on key pedagogical concepts and underwent a detailed review of our Code of Conduct.

We are very excited to announce that, following a number of enquiries from students and parents, we are starting new Economics group lessons for Year 13 students. The Economics group lessons will be run by our Economics tutor Christoph, a professional Economics teacher with three years of experience teaching at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School. Christoph holds a BSc(Econ) in Economics and an MSc in Economic History from the LSE and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). Prior to teaching, Christoph has spent a number of years working across different disciplines in higher education projects, teaching and learning initiatives and advocacy.

My son has known Mr G since the age of 11, he was his former maths teacher at HABS. He is now a year ahead of his age [at school], and we used Mr G's lessons to help him bridge that gap, but he enjoyed the lessons so much that he's continued working with him. The lessons have given him a great deal of confidence and he’s got the belief he can achieve the top grade in maths. I asked my son what is different about the way Mr G teaches maths to the way maths is taught at school; he said Mr G has a fun way of teaching complex topics.
