WINNERS OF THE BREAKTHROUGH PRIZE 2019 ANNOUNCED

Although relatively new initiative, the Breakthrough Prize is one of the largest prizes offered in Science – every year, it awards scientists in Mathematics, Fundamental Physics and Life Sciences for making significant contributions to our understanding of the world. Those of our students who take a particular interest in these fields might find it interesting to look at the winners of the prize and familiarise themselves with the current leading ideas in the science sector!

This year, winners were celebrated for breakthroughs in gene therapy, discovery of a new class of electronic materials and developments in mathematical theory.

11+ MATHEMATICS AND ENGLISH MOCK EXAMINATIONS

We were delighted to see so many of our Year 6 students attending the 11+ mock examinations we held during the half-term holidays. We would like to remind parents of the final places available in the upcoming mock exams that will take place in December and January.

The mock examinations are modelled on 11+ entrance examination papers to independent schools in the area and are written by our lead tutors Vivek Gathani and Milda Sabunaite.

UK University Fair taking place this weekend

This Saturday, a UK university fair is being held at the Royal Lancaster London. Giving UK and international students a chance to learn more about around 100 universities across the country, the fair will also offer seminars on writing personal statements and the process of applying to universities.

1st Professional Development Seminar

We are delighted to announce that last Saturday, the 20th of October, we hosted our first Professional Development Seminar of the academic year. During the seminar, our senior tutor Vivek Gathani introduced tutors to lesson planning strategies as well as the 5-part-lesson structure. We were delighted to see so many of our tutors attending the Seminar and look forward to our next Seminar next month!

Museums to visit during half term

11+ mock Mathematics and English examinations: registration open

We are glad to remind parents that during the October half-term and the Christmas holidays, we will be running Mathematics and English mock examinations for pupils who are preparing to sit 11+ entrance examinations to independent schools this January. The mock examinations are modelled on 11+ entrance examination papers to independent schools in the area.

The mock examination papers are written by our lead tutors Vivek Gathani and Milda Sabunaite.

The mocks will take place at our premises in Elstree (5 Theobald Court, Theobald Street, WD6 4RN). The students will have the opportunity to sit a different Mathematics mock examination paper and an English mock examination paper each day.

Man Booker Prize Winner Announced

Today, the novel "Milkman" by Northern Irish writer Anna Burns has been announced the winner of the prestigious Man Booker Prize. The Man Booker Prize is an internationally renowned literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel written in English and published in the UK. Its previous winners include "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel, "Midnight Children" by Salman Rushdie and "Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha" by Roddy Doyle. Trefoil Tutors represented at the National Tutors Conference

Today, our Manager Milda Sabunaite represented Trefoil Tutors at the National Tutors Conference hosted by the Tutors' Association. Attended by over 150 tutors from around the country, the event offered a variety of seminars and workshops that covered topics from structuring long-term tutoring to adapting lessons to high-achieving students, as well as looking at the future of the tutoring sector in the UK. We were delighted to be part of the event!

Trefoil Tutors at the 5th annual LBD charity brunch

Today, our senior tutor Vivek Gathani and lead English tutor Milda Sabunaite were invited to represent Trefoil Tutors at the 5th annual LBD charity brunch. Vivek delivered a short presentation, offering parents his professional advice about finding high-quality tutoring for their children. All donations collected at the event went to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital based in Elstree. We would like to thank the LBD charity for welcoming us to the event!
