On the weekends of the 7th and the 8th of September, we hosted the first two events of our Curriculum Evenings Series. We were delighted to see so many parents take an active interest in not only the lessons their children attend at Trefoil Tutors, but also in the ways they can best support their children's learning at home.
The Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum evening was held for the parents of our students preparing to take the 11+ examinations. Our lead tutors Vivek and Milda guided parents through our 11+ programme, an overview of schools in the North London area and tips on the 11+ process. If you were unable to attend, we are glad to confirm that we will be hosting another Year 4 and Year 5 curriculum evening on the 1st of November.
The evening titled "Achieving a successful set of GCSE results" took place on the 8th September. To help our Year 11 students and their parents best prepare for the challenging year ahead, our senior tutor, Vivek Gathani, led parents through a short presentation on the new grading system, important dates in the upcoming year and good revision practice.

'I have seen massive changes in her attitude to maths. She has gone leaps and bounds in confidence when approaching papers. She has learnt topics before she’s had to learn them at school, or has just had subjects reconfirmed for her during her tutoring at Trefoil. As a parent, I am very happy that we've enjoyed coming to lessons at Trefoil Tutors and we are looking to continue – especially as we have seen such improvement!'

Reading is a surefire way to develop a plethora of skills, from improving one's spelling and creative writing to developing social understanding and broadening knowledge of a variety of topics. While compulsory texts studied at school may not be every student's cup of tea, this should not be a discouragement from reading in general. Therefore, our lead English tutor Milda would like to share with you her thoughts about reading for your own pleasure and the benefits this habit may bring.

The summer holidays are an important time for students to take a break and recharge their batteries – at the same time, parents often worry about academic regression which may make the start of the new academic year harder than expected.
Last summer, we shared a video from our lead tutor Vivek Gathani on managing academic regression. In the video, Vivek highlighted the importance of practising “little and often” in order to stay up to speed with the material studied in the previous academic year. You can watch the video here.

On the 14th of July, we hosted our annual advice evening for A-level students and their parents on the topic of applying to universities and writing a good personal statement. The workshop was run by Vivek Gathani, our lead Mathematics tutor and a former UCAS advisor at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School.
The twelve participants of the workshop received advice about the application process and looked into the specifics of writing a good personal statement for their UCAS applications.
Thanks to everyone who attended and best of luck with writing your applications!
