We would like to say a big congratulations to all the students who have sat their 11+ entrance exams. 21 out of 24 of our students were invited for interviews at their first choice of school, with 8 out of 11 boys being offered an interview at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School. Very well done! If there’s anything we can do to help with upcoming interviews don’t hesitate to get in touch!

We would like to remind parents of our current students that priority registration for Set 4 of group lessons is now open. Your child’s place in the lessons is reserved until the 17th of February; after this date, any places that have not been booked will be offered to students on the waiting list on a first-come, first served basis.

Suhan has recently been moved into an accelerated group, where children can learn more as the speed and depth is differentiated for this group of children. That helps Suhan push forward towards his preparations for exams.

To celebrate International Education Day which took place this week, our lead English Tutor Milda would like to encourage you to get involved in our Trefoil Tutors International Education Day challenge!

Today we celebrate the world’s very first International Day of Education! On 3rd December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 24th of January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development around the world.

We are delighted to have been able to support the learning of so many children throughout the past years – this day is a great reminder to appreciate and treasure the learning opportunities accessible to us!

As Trefoil Tutors continues to grow, we are delighted to share an exciting opportunity to become part of our team!

We are currently looking for an experienced Mathematics tutor to offer one-to-one lessons up to GCSE or A-level. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in planning, teaching and evaluating outstanding Mathematics lessons and have demonstrated a passion for their subject.

The lessons would take place on a weekly basis during term-time, on weekday evenings or weekends at our office in Elstree or at tutee’s home. The successful candidate must be able to start running the lessons in February 2019 or September 2019 and commit to the position for at least one academic year.

On the 19th of January, we hosted the third Professional Development Seminar as part of the Professional Development Programme at Trefoil Tutors. In the seminar, our Senior Tutor Vivek Gathani discussed our Code of Conduct with the tutors and analysed potential situations that may arise when working with children.

At Trefoil Tutors, tutor development and child protection are two cornerstones of the professionalism that we bring to tutoring and we were delighted that so many of our team were able to join us!

We are currently looking for an experienced Science tutor to offer one-to-one lessons in Biology, Chemistry or Physics. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in planning, teaching and evaluating outstanding Science lessons and have demonstrated a passion for their subject.

As Year 5 students begin their second academic term, the 11+ examinations for grammar schools are under eight months away. Although this may seem like a long time, these months tend to rush by and we will soon be preparing mock exams and revision sessions.

In order to offer all our support to Year 5 students as well as their parents, on the 4th of January 2019, we hosted our first 11+ Information Evening. During the event, our lead tutors shared their experience of supporting students in their 11+ preparations throughout the last decade. We were pleased to see 18 parents of Year 5 students attend the event, as well as to hear their feedback about how beneficial the topics covered during the evening were in supporting their 11+ preparation and planning.

Due to popular demand, we are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a second 11+ Information Evening next week and would like to invite all parents of Year 5 students to attend!

We are very excited to announce that, following a number of enquiries from students and parents, we are starting a new Mathematics group lessons for Year 9 students.

The Mathematics group lessons will be run by Kirtan Shah, a newly qualified teacher currently working as a Teacher of Mathematics at QE Boys' School. With an ability to successfully communicate complex concepts in a simple manner, Kirtan is a tutor who is able to offer support to students of varying age and ability.

The lessons, attended by a maximum of six Year 9 students, will follow the GCSE programme prepared by our senior Mathematics tutor Vivek Gathani, which sees the students through to their GCSE examinations in Year 11.

We are very excited to see our team of tutors grow this academic year! On the 3rd of January, we held our Tutor Induction Day and welcomed four new tutors, Kirtan, Christoph, Nirmala and Riddhi, who will be running small group lessons in Mathematics and Economics at Trefoil.

During the induction, the new tutors received training on key pedagogical concepts and underwent a detailed review of our Code of Conduct.

With the 11+ entrance examinations nearly done, this week, a number of independent schools are starting their interviewing process for 11+ entrance. We would like to wish the best of luck to all candidates who are attending interviews in the upcoming days!

The interview is an exciting opportunity to learn more about the school you are applying for, as well as help the school get to know you – their potential new student!

I think that the feedback we received was brilliant because it gave you an idea of which areas he was struggling with and pointed out specifically what he needed to work on. It helped Kabir and me, because we were working together as a team - the tutor, the parent and the child. I think that is the best bit and they couldn't have done it better.
